Written by Nick Spalding | 05-Feb-2025 10:00:00

Are you a travel blogger, small business owner, or digital nomad looking to expand your online presence?

Whether you’re exploring Shopify for your website or considering integrating print-on-demand services, the recent overhaul of TravelPick UK’s website is a case study worth your attention.

Our team was thrilled to help Nick and Lisa of TravelPick migrate their website from HubSpot CMS to Shopify, creating a more versatile and user-friendly platform. Along with moving 25+ site reviews and blogs, we integrated a print-on-demand provider to offer caravan-inspired products and even launched a new Etsy store.

The result? A site that effortlessly blends their love for travel with e-commerce tools that simplify sales.

If you’re considering making similar changes to your site, read on to learn about the key steps and features behind this transformation.

Why the Move to Shopify?

HubSpot CMS is a great option for content management, but when it comes to building a scalable, flexible e-commerce store, Shopify is in a league of its own. Here’s why we made the switch for TravelPick UK:

  1. Seamless E-commerce: Shopify is designed for selling. Adding product pages, creating collections, and managing sales are a breeze compared to non-e-commerce-focused platforms.
  2. Customisation Options: Shopify themes are highly customisable, helping TravelPick UK align its branding with its website’s functionality.
  3. Integration Capabilities: From payment gateways to print-on-demand services, Shopify integrates easily with hundreds of third-party apps, giving businesses endless flexibility.

By choosing Shopify, our team helped Nick and Lisa refine their digital platform without compromising on features or scalability.

Adding Print-on-Demand Services

TravelPick UK’s audience isn’t here for any ordinary tourist souvenirs – they want thoughtfully designed caravan-inspired products that fit their “travel enthusiast” lifestyle. To bring those ideas to life, we connected TravelPick with a market leading print-on-demand provider.

What is Print-on-Demand?

Print-on-demand (POD) lets businesses sell custom-designed products without stocking inventory. Once a customer places an order, the product is printed (think mugs, t-shirts, phone cases) and shipped directly from the supplier.

Steps We Took to Set it Up

  • Choose a Print-on-Demand Provider

We evaluated multiple POD services and selected one that offered a balance between quality, delivery speed, and compatibility with Shopify. Popular options include Printful and Printify. For TravelPicks, ease of use and product range were key criteria.

  • Add the Provider to Shopify

The provider’s app was integrated directly with TravelPick UK’s Shopify store. With Shopify’s simple app marketplace, connecting the two only took a few clicks.

  • Design the Products

Caravan-themed mugs, t-shirts, and cushions were created with TravelPick’s brand in mind. The POD provider’s design tools allowed for full customisation.

  • Sync Products with the Store

Once designed, products were synced from the POD app to TravelPick’s Shopify store, complete with pricing, descriptions, and images.

  • Set Up Shipping and Checkout

The POD provider handled shipping directly, so TravelPick only needed to optimise their Shopify checkout process to ensure a smooth customer journey.

Thanks to this integration, Nick and Lisa didn’t need to worry about warehouse costs or supply chain logistics, letting them focus on their real passion – travel and community building.

Launching TravelPick UK's Etsy Store

While Shopify serves as the main hub for TravelPick UK, launching an Etsy store gave their products even more exposure. Given Etsy’s reputation as a marketplace for unique, handmade, and niche items, it was the perfect fit for their caravan-themed lifestyle products.

How We Integrated Etsy, Printify and Shopify

  • Create an Etsy Profile

We helped set up a profile that reflected TravelPick’s branding—bright, engaging, and targeted towards caravan enthusiasts.

  • Sync Product Listings

Using Printify as the central product hub we were able to sync Shopify products to Etsy, eliminating the need to manually update inventory on both platforms.

  • Optimise SEO for Etsy

Etsy uses its own search engine algorithm to rank products, so we updated listings to include high-ranking keywords like “caravan accessories” and “travel lover gifts.” This is very early days, we are using EtsyCheck to check the performance of the store, its listings, and it can help with Etsy trends.

EtsyCheck is a little light as a key keyword research tool so for that we are using a couple of other apps including MOZ and ERank

  • Track Analytics Across Platforms.

By integrating tools that monitor sales and traffic across Shopify and Etsy, we gave Nick and Lisa a comprehensive view of their growing customer base.

Launching the Etsy store alongside the Shopify website wasn’t just about increasing sales—it was about reaching an entirely new audience that may not have come across TravelPick otherwise.

Why Both Platforms Work Together

Combining Shopify’s robust e-commerce capabilities with Etsy’s massive marketplace audience is a winning strategy for small businesses. Shopify keeps the website running smoothly while using Printify to connect to Etsy connects businesses with its built-in buyer base.

What’s Next for TravelPick UK?

With the Shopify website and Etsy shop up and running, TravelPick UK is now well-positioned to focus on scaling their business without worrying about technical limitations. We also plan to add TikTok shop and Amazon later too to form a complete ecosystem.

More caravan-themed products and blogs are in the pipeline, ensuring loyal followers—and new customers—stay engaged.

This project delivered more than just an e-commerce website. It created a platform aligned with TravelPick’s community-driven ethos while opening the door to a world of new opportunities.
