How do I post a News story on my Wordpress Websites?

It's a question we are often asked by sales or marketing people working within organisations or indeed company owners who have paid for a new Wordpress website and find themselves unable to add their own news stories.

It's not 1996 any more

Gone are the days when you need a graphic designer or web consultant to update your website with news posts for you. Okay, if your website is not on Wordpress or other CMS (content management system) like Hubspot CMS you may still need both of these people to help you update your website, but with most websites in the last 5 years or more being built upon a CMS, you ought to be able to post your own news stories, right?

Basic Editor

Most website page editors use a basic HTML editor of some description. If you are familiar with editing documents on Adobe or Microsoft, the chances are you will have no trouble with an HTML editor. They do require an amount of more care but generally they are very easy to use. With Hubspot CMS the page editors are a dream to use and a Wordpress editor can become simple with familiarity.

WP Bakery Page Builder (and others)

There are a number of more advanced page editors or page builders , compatible with Wordpress websites. Some are included with Wordpress themes, some can be uploaded and added separately, often as a Wordpress plugin.

If we are building a website on Wordpress, we particularly favour WP Bakery Page Builder, as it allows a lot of customisation, very quickly and easily (once you have become familiar with it and learned how it works). We'd always choose to build in Hubspot CMS first but if we are building in Wordpress our preference for building pages (and news posts in Wordpress) looks something like this;

  • WP Bakery Page Builder
  • Divi Page Builder
  • Elementor
  • WP Basic Editor
  • Gutenberg
  •
