How We Increased Web Traffic and Conversions for a Client’s Shopify Store

If you’re a business owner or e-commerce entrepreneur struggling to drive traffic and boost conversions on your Shopify store, you’re not alone. With countless online stores competing for attention, standing out requires strategy, not luck.

At The Growth Agency, we have been working with LBM Art & Stationery, on improving their traffic and conversions and within just three months, we have seen some fairly remarkable results. Their web traffic grew 3x, conversion rates increased by 192%, and total online sales shot up by 220%. If that sounds like magic, it’s not—it’s about strategy, consistency, and tactical implementation.

Whilst it's still very early days, organic improvements should begin to kick in soon, the client and we are happy with initial steps.

This blog will walk you through the 10 steps we used to achieve such a significant transformation—and how you can apply them to your Shopify store.

The 10 Steps That Drive Results

Here’s how we tackled the challenge, step by step:

1. Revisit and Rewrite Product Descriptions

First impressions matter, especially in e-commerce. LBM’s product descriptions were functional but lacked personality, detailed benefits, and persuasive language.

We overhauled every product description for one brand (there's still plenty to do!) by:

  1. Adding compelling headlines that grabbed attention.
  2. Highlighting key product features with bullet points for easy readability.
  3. Including imaginative wording to appeal to artists and stationery enthusiasts.

Result: Visitors could immediately see the value of the products, leading to higher engagement and, ultimately, more conversions.

2. Mark Up Images with ALT Text

ALT text isn’t just about accessibility; it’s also a powerful SEO element. For every image on LBM’s online site, we added descriptive ALT text that included:

  1. Product keywords relevant to search queries.
  2. Informative context that appealed to both users and search engines.

Why it works: ALT text helps your images rank in search engines and ensures visually impaired users can access your content.

3. Rewrite Product Meta Titles

The meta title is crucial for SEO—it’s often the first thing potential customers see in search results. We optimised LBM’s meta titles by:

  1. Adding primary keywords in a natural way.
  2. Keeping the titles concise and actionable to encourage clicks. For example:

“Sketchpad A4” became “A4 Sketchpad by LBM – Perfect for Artists & Designers”.

Why it works: There is an optimum length for search engines.

4. Rewrite Product Meta Descriptions

A good meta description can make or break search click-through rates. We reimagined LBM’s descriptions to:

  1. Include a clear value proposition.
  2. Highlight free shipping and other benefits.
  3. Include a call-to-action like "Shop Now!" or "Discover Exceptional Quality".

Why it works: With SEO-backed and user-focused descriptions, LBM's search engine presence improved significantly.

5. Submit Sitemap to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

An indexed website is a visible website. We ensured all of LBM’s pages were indexed correctly by submitting updated sitemaps to:

  1. Google Search Console (GSC)
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools

Why it works: This allowed search engines to crawl and categorise LBM’s content faster and more efficiently.

6. Re-submit Page URLs for Inspection

Keeping up with search engines means ensuring your pages are being re-crawled after updates. Each revised product page description, meta title and description and page URL was re-submitted for inspection via Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools..

Pro Tip: Don’t wait for search engines to re-crawl your site—manually submitting updated URLs speeds up the process significantly.

7. Add Google Shopping and YouTube Sales Channels

We maximised LBM’s exposure by incorporating Google Shopping and YouTube sales channels, within Shopify, which enabled their products to appear in search ads and Free Google product listings with rich product images, prices, and ratings.

Why it works: Shoppers can now easily find and compare LBM’s products, simplifying their path to purchase.

8. Update Social Media Profiles

A cohesive online presence starts with branding. We updated LBM's Facebook, Instagram, X and LinkedIN profiles by:

  1. Aligning the tone and visuals with their new website.
  2. Adding direct links to shop product categories.
  3. Optimising their “About” sections with clear descriptions and primary keywords.

Result: Elevated brand credibility and a seamless user experience, from discovery to checkout.

9. Launch Facebook and Instagram Shop Sales Channels

Social media is where the magic happens, especially for visually driven businesses. With Facebook Shops and Instagram Shopping, we:

  1. Tagged LBM’s products in posts and Stories.
  2. Enabled users to shop directly from their newsfeeds.
  3. Placed inexpensive Facebook and Insta ads to drive traffic.

Result: A noticeable increase in impulse buys and brand discovery via social.

10. Engage with Subscribers via E-Newsletters

To nurture leads, we kicked off a series of e-newsletters featuring:

  1. Announcements of new product arrivals.
  2. Exclusive subscriber-only discounts.
  3. Tips for art projects using LBM’s supplies.

Why it works: This is helping LBM build deeper connections with their customers and increase repeat purchases.

Pleasing Results in Just 90 Days

You can expect organic search results to kick in over time but by focusing on these 10 steps, here’s what LBM Art & Stationery achieved in three months:

  1. Traffic? 3x more visitors than before.
  2. Conversions? Up 192%.
  3. Sales? A whopping 220% increase in revenue.

What the Client Had to Say:

"It’s very busy, thanks to the efforts of the team at The Growth Agency," said the team at LBM Art & Stationery.

The Takeaway for Your Shopify Store

If you’re looking to achieve similar results, here are three actionable takeaways:

  1. Optimise for search and discovery. Start with your product descriptions, meta info, images, and sitemaps to make your site easy to find.
  2. Leverage free and paid sales channels. Google Shopping and Instagram Shops can be game changers.
  3. Stay connected. Use email marketing to nurture your audience and bring them back for more.

Success is a journey, not an overnight achievement.

We’re still in the early stages of implementing the strategy for this Shopify store, and it takes consistent effort—regular task execution, performance reviews, and strategy tweaks. But with a clear focus and ongoing commitment, you can transform your Shopify store, just like LBM Art & Stationery did. Think of it as building something amazing, one step at a time!
